Diboll residents appointed as members of Historical Society

The Angelina County Commissioners' Court members met in regular session yesterday and approved a number of items that will affect some residents of Angelina County.

With the absence of newly elected Judge Wes Suiter, commissioner Kenneth Timmons presided over the proceedings of the court.

The first action the court took was to approve the appointment of members of the Angelina County Historical society. Newly appointed members include: Bill Bartlett of Lufkin, Bob Bowman of Lufkin, Alisha Burrow of Lufkin, Linda Chastain of Lufkin, Amanda Cook-Gilbert of Lufkin, Dickie Dixon of Lufkin, Becky Donahoe of Diboll, Jeri Fenley of Lufkin, Woody Gann of Lufkin, Jonathan Gerland of Diboll, Dawn Glover of Lufkin, Mary Jo Gorden of Lufkin, Mark Hicks of Lufkin, Nash Hogue of Lufkin, Emily Hyatt of Diboll, Bettie Kennedy of Lufkin, Bonnie Killam of Lufkin, Wilton Killam of Lufkin, Glenn Nerren of Lufkin, Royce Read of Lufkin, Carol Riggs of Lufkin, Barbara Thompson of Lufkin, Mary Jane West of Lufkin and Jetta Westerholm of Lufkin.

The court also approved a call for an Intergovernmental agreement between the county and the cities of Burke and Zavalla. Under this agreement the county would provide machinery and other services to help the cities in exchange for the supply of materials for use in said services. This agreement would last for one year.

The Commissioners approved the request by the City of Lufkin to be able to house Class C offenders in the Angelina County Jail following several months of negotiation between Sheriff Kent Henson and Lufkin officials. Sheriff Henson and the city agreed on a deal to house offenders at of fee of $35 per day beginning February 1 and lasting until January 2008 at which point the fee would be raised to $37.

Other items that the court approved were:

€ Giving the county authority to advertise for bids on the lease of minerals on the property of the Angelina County Airport in accordance that the retrieval of the minerals does not interfere with the operation of the airport.

€ Giving approval for Angelina County to recognize Arbor Day as February 8.

€ Giving Precinct 1 permission to purchase a pick-up to replace one of two six-year old trucks with over 150,000 miles on the engines.

€ Approved paying of bills for January 2007.
