Ollie Mae (Horn) Courtney died January 5th in Arlington Texas.
She was born May 22, 1910 in Lufkin at the Horn farm on Ford Chapel Road.
She is survived by a sister, Minnie Morgan of Lufkin, four children, Harley Courtney of Arlington, Ralph Courtney of Ajijic, Mexico, Trula Burton of Bridge City, LaNelle Mayberry of Alvin; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She had many nieces and nephews, most who live in Angelina County.
Mrs. Courtney grew up in Lufkin and married Carey C. Courtney of Lufkin in 1929. They lived in Orange from 1944 where Mrs. Courtney served as church secretary at the Cove Baptist Church from 1945 until her retirement in 1973. Upon their retirement Mr. and Mrs. Courtney returned to Lufkin and built a home in the former orchard of the Horn home place, where they lived until Mr. Courtney died in 1994. Mrs. Courtney subsequently lived at The Meadows in Lufkin and in Arlington. Visitation and a memorial service were held at the Denman Avenue Baptist Church in Lufkin on January 8th from 7 to 9 p.m. and on January 9th at 10 a.m., respectively followed by burial at Knight Cemetery in Lufkin.
