Opal (Wilroy) Anderson, 89, of Huntington, was born January 2, 1918, in Angelina County, Texas, the daughter of the late Lela (Gardenhire) and Walter Hawkins. She passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2007, in a Lufkin hospital. Mrs. Anderson was retired from Texas Foundry, following 25 years of service. She was also a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Anderson was a great cook, and loved cooking for the family. She was a member of the First Ora Missionary Baptist Church, and had resided in Huntington all her life.
Survivors include her husband, Elton Anderson of Huntington; children and their spouses, Joe David and Janice Wilroy of Lufkin, Kenneth and Pat Anderson of Huntington and Patsy and Tom Angers of Hudson; six grandsons and one granddaughter; thirteen great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceding Mrs. Anderson in death were her first husband, Joe Wilroy, two brothers and three sisters.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Ben Wilroy, Stacy Wilroy, Joe Thomas Wilroy, Kerry Angers, Kane Angers and Eric Wilroy.
Honorary pallbearers were be Kevin Anderson, Dale Kirkland and Robert Page.
Expressions of sympathy in Mrs. Anderson's memory may be made to the First Ora Missionary Baptist Church.
Services for Mrs. Anderson were held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2007, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Joe Sawyer and Ted Ivy officiating. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Gipson Funeral Home; Todd Stracener, director, was in charge of arrangements.
