Funeral services for Ruby Lee (Black) Modisette, 82, of Lufkin, who passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2007, were held Saturday, February 3, 2007. The 2 p.m. service, held at the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel, was officiated by Reverend Richard Joseph; her former pastor, Reverend Doug Feazell; her brother, Reverend Dee Black; and her grandson, Reverend Glyndon Greer. Interment followed in the Walker Cemetery.
Ruby was born September 26, 1924 in Burke, Texas, to Hetty Loach (Mathews) and Reverend Dock Black. She had lived in Lufkin most of her life. She married the love of her life, F. R. ‘'Snip'' Modisette October 26, 1940. They were married 58 years at the time of his leaving for his heavenly home in 1999. Her parents and two brothers, Daniel and Gerald Black, also preceded her to Heaven. Her life was spent living for God as a full-time homemaker. Her greatest pleasures were her involvement with her church and her two daughters' many activities. She actively served her church as Sunday school teacher, Church Youth Camp counselor, WMS president, WMU delegate, and Prayer Band leader. She provided accommodations and many meals for missionaries and evangelists who visited her home churches. She loved having her pastors and their families come over for lunch after Sunday morning worship. She served as a Camp Fire Girls (formerly Bluebirds) leader. She was an accomplished seamstress and fashion designer.
Surviving are her daughters and their husbands, Pat and Hal Greer of Lufkin and Judy and George Crockett of Katy; her brother, Carl T. Black of Mesquite; her brothers and their wives, Hubert and Elaine Black of Silsbee and Dee and D.J. Black of Normangee; and her sister and her husband, Marlene and Manuel Ray Steptoe. The greatest joys of her life were her grandchildren: her granddaughter and her husband, Angela (Greer) and Josue Molino of San Antonio; and her grandsons and their wives, Glyndon and Chasity (Minyard) Greer of San Antonio, George and Liz (Griffith) Crockett of Wichita Falls, and David and Amy (Linville) Crockett of Houston. When she became a great-grandmother, it was the ultimate joy for her on Earth. Her great-grandchildren are: her great-grandsons, Juan Haldon and Josue Matthew Molina of San Antonio; and her great-granddaughters, Hailey and Macey Greer of San Antonio and Khyla Crockett of Wichita Falls.
Pallbearers were her nephews, Travis Black of Round Rock, Jeff Black of Palestine, Manuel Padilla of Silsbee, Michael Black of Plano, Bruce Steptoe of Shelbyville and Alton Steptoe of San Augustine.
Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews by marriage, Bernie Modisette, Ray Modisette, Kinnon Modisette, George Little, Jr. and Kevin Marshall, all of Lufkin, Thomas Modisette of Colmesneil, Maurice Modisette of Shepherd, Keith Monroe of Halleyville, Alabama, and Jim Monroe, Jr. of Newnan, Georgia. Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home, Lufkin, directors, was in charge of arrangements.
