It's done, settled, finished, come to pass - the Diboll Lady Jacks are the 2006-2007 District 20-3A Champions. There is no disputing that following an amazing run this season that these ladies are going places and the place they have set their sights on is Austin.
Following two more exceptional victories last week and their final game this week the Lady Jacks can rest easy before heading on into the first round of playoffs.
Against Carthage last Tuesday the Lady Jacks found themselves with an opportunity to display the feats of teamwork that have gotten them this far.
In a balanced offensive attack the Lady Jacks hit the court against the Lady Bulldogs like a well-oiled machine knocking in two after two after three points. From the very beginning it was clear that the ladies from Carthage were facing at team way out of their league, but for the Lady Jacks it was just a practice for bigger things to come.
The ladies closed the game last Tuesday with a 78-37 finish.
The big score for the game came from Deneshia Holman with 12 points followed closely by several Lady Jacks with two-digit scores. Nikki Greene, Ja'Frina Jackson, Amber Baldwin and Crystal Spencer all claimed 10 points for themselves in the powerful offensive attack.
Other scores for the ladies were Cammi Evans with nine, Vanessa Jones with seven, Moné Deason with six and Ternisha Jackson and Pashun Tappin each with two.
The JV lost a heartbreaker to Carthage with a 42-41 loss. Scores for the JV ladies were December Simmons with 19, Yadira Salais with 8, Jasmine Lewis with 7, and Dominique West with 7.
The Freshman ladies continued their streak with a 42-31 victory. Scores were Frankie Bogany with 13, Chelsea Burns with 15, Samantha Garcia with 5, Shaniece Deason with 16 and Meredith Ruby with 6.
On Friday night the Lady Jacks traveled down the road to face the Hudson Lady Hornets in Diboll's final away game of the regular season. The Lady Hornets came out fighting but their sting would not deter the Lady Jacks as they fought back and held their opponents down to claim the win. The Lady Jacks emerged from the game with heads held high and a 53-33 win.
Scores for the Varsity for that game were N. Greene- 13, V. Jones- 6, C. Evans- 5, T. Jackson- 2, J. Jackson- 3, M. Deason- 9, A. Baldwin- 7 and D. Holman- 8.
The Lady Jack JV fell once again in a heartbreaking finish with a final score of 25-32. Scores were Danielle Simmons-3, Y. Salais- 10, J. Lewis- 2, D. West- 4, D. Grant- 2 and December Simmons- 4.
The Lady Jack Freshman continued their journey to a perfect finish with a 51-14 win to put their record at 7-0 going into their final game of the season. Scores for the Freshman were F. Bogany- 16, C. Burns- 12, S. Garcia- 2, N. Deason- 11 and M. Ruby- 8.
