Lumberjacks topple Trojans in scrimmage

“Play ball!”, are two iconic words in the American dialect. It signals in the start of something that everyone in the country is familiar with -baseball.

For the Diboll Lumberjacks those two words got them off to a blazing start in their first scrimmage of the 2007 season. The Lumberjacks hosted the Coldsprings Trojans on Monday night and sent them home staggering despite having limited time to practice due to weather.

The Lumberjacks saw trouble early on as they went up against several Coldsprings pitchers. But as the game went on the ‘Jacks found their groove and took the come from behind win with a final score of 10-8.

On the mound Kyle Prescott lead the ‘Jacks with five strikeouts in two innings. He had help from Cutler Ruby -three K in one inning, Joey Solis -one K in one inning, Carlos Moreno -three K in two innings, Aaron Rush -one K in one inning and Johnathan Fuentes -two K in one inning.

On the other side of the plate the Lumberjacks saw no trouble getting on base with a total of 10 hits on the night.

Prescott had the hits, Chance Johnson knocked two, and Moreno, Rush, Ruby, Solis and Ryan Whitworth all had one.

The Lumberjacks' next game will be a scrimmage in Trinity on Thursday at 4:00 pm and a scrimmage at home against Newton on Monday at 4:30 pm.
