Mary Lydia Shumard Harbordt passed away peacefully Saturday morning, February 3, 2007 in Longview, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2007 at Rosewood Park Cemetery under direction of Rader Funeral Home, Longview, with Pastor Jeff Roadcap officiating.
Mrs. Harbordt was born on April 16, 1918 in Boerne, Texas to parents Malnor A. and Roberta S. Shumard. She enjoyed horseback riding on their Hill Country ranch and painted lovely Bluebonnet landscapes in later years. She married Charles Harbordt on July 27, 1940. After service in WWII, Mr. Harbordt returned to ExxonMobil and retired after 42 years. Mr. and Mrs. Harbordt lived most of their married life in East Texas where they raised their two children. A family pet dog was always close by for companionship and comfort. Mrs, Harbord's hobbies included playing bridge, fishing for big bass, travel and oil painting. She was an active member of The Episcopal Church, DAR, and The National Society of Colonial Dames of America. The family of Mrs. Harbordt wishes to thank special caregivers Alicia "Lesa", Constance, Brenda, Gladys, Jackie and Demeatrice who wholeheartedly gave their love and provided daily comfort.
Mrs Harbordt was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Charles Harbordt, and her brother, Malnor A. Shumard III.
She is survived by her son, Charles Harbordt and his wife Jackie Ward Harbordt of Lufkin, and daughter, Roberta A. Harbordt Goodrich and husband, William G. Goodrich, of Longview; grandchildren: Katherine Studer and husband James, Julie Whitworth, Michelle Yarborough, Heather Murphy and husband James; six great- grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and sister, Roberta S. Shumard.
The kindness and care given by Lifecare Hospice in recent months will always be remembered. The family requests donations given in lieu of flowers be made to Lifecare Hospice of Longview, The Alzheimer's Foundation or Highway 80 Rescue Mission, Longview.
