James M. (Jimmy) Herrington

Funeral services for James M. (Jimmy) Herrington, 86, of Lufkin will be held Friday, February 9, 2007 at 3:30 p.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles M. Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Jimmy was born December 13, 1920 in Saratoga, Hardin County, Texas, to Clyde G. and Myrtle (Adams) Herrington, and died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 in a local nursing home. Jimmy attended school in Lufkin, and lived in Lufkin most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He served in the Sea Bees as a member of a demolition crew and also served as a gunner's mate. Jimmy was attached to the Marines in the invasion of Okinawa. He was also in the Battle of the Coral Sea and several others.

Jimmy married Marie Boozer June 6, 1947 and they lived in Lufkin. They were members of Denman Avenue Baptist Church. He was a foreman at Lufkin Industries and worked there for 42 years. Jimmy loved spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, building in his workshop and taking care of his cows.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Clyde and Karol Sue Herrington of Lufkin; granddaughter, Maci Jan Herrington of Lufkin; grandson, Adam James Herrington of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. William (Billy) Herrington and Dr. Mary Lee Herrington of Waco; sister-in-law, Rita Mae Boozer of Franklin, Louisiana; and nieces and nephews and their families, Robert Gordon Boozer of Benoit, Mississippi, Sharon Boozer Bruno of Forney and Brenda Boozer Henson of Franklin, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Marie Herrington, on December 14, 2006; and his parents.

Pallbearers will be Paul Abney, Jon Anderson, Art Bauereiss, Jimmy Cassels, Wesley Hoyt and Steve Powell.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Abney, Jeff Abney, Jay Cassels, Thomas Cassels, Larry James, Edward T. McFarland, Judge David Walker and Judge Paul White. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 S. Raguet St., Lufkin, Texas 75904 or Denman Avenue Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1351, Lufkin, Texas 75902. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home, Lufkin, directors.
