Lufkinites attending the “Alive After Five” sponsored by the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce at the Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital to honor Dr. Amy Huggins in the opening of her pediatric practice were her parents, Margaret and Jim Huggins; brother, Adam Huggins; aunt, Linda Huggins-Martin; uncle and aunt, Tommy and Cay Billingsley. Also, Trey and Brigettee Henderson, Joe and Joy Rich, Llewellyn Frazier, Bobbie Davis, Mike and Pat Sabo, Claude and Patti Smithhart, Kevin Smithhart, Randy Baker, Ernest and Ginna Hudgens, Karen Broughton, Jeanie Dean, Susan Dickens, David and Erica Anderson with Bonnie Belle Anderson who is two and one of Amy's first patients, Donna Vincent, Cissy Seely, Karen Hay, Manse Draper, Chris Randall, Larika Neal, David Perkins, Dr. Amy Ross, Ashley Kaczynski. Amy returned to Nacogdoches from her residency in Charleston, South Carolina and opened her practice in October 2006. They had a drawing and I put in my “LHS Alumni Association” purple and gold business card. Needless to say, they did not draw me. I had to tell everyone that Amy was from Lufkin and get in my plug for us. Glad to have her close to home. J. P. Callaway played the guitar during the open house. The theme of Amy's office is the jungle. Each of the patient rooms has a theme with them being a hippo, zebra and tiger. Mary Coronis of Dreamweavers Murals in Huntsville did the hand painted murals on each of the three rooms. There was a cloud and different things on the ceiling so the children would look up at the ceiling while on the examining table. Jungle balloons were everywhere to guide us up the stairs to her office in the hospital's office spaces.
