Annual Youth Fair gets under way Monday at Expo Center in Lufkin

The 58th annual Angelina County Youth Fair will officially get underway on Monday, February 26 at the George Henderson Jr Expo Center in Lufkin.

The week-long event, coordinated by the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce, will showcase the talents of 4-H and FAA members and other school-age children from throughout the county and will culminate on Friday, March 2 with an auction.

The fair's broiler show will kick things off Monday beginning at 6 p.m., followed by the breeding gilt show on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.

Wednesday's activities begin with the beef heifer show beginning at 1 p.m. followed by the beef showmanship competition. At 2 p.m., the check-in for the arts and crafts begin followed by chick-in of steers, hogs, goats, lambs, commercial heifers and horses, beginning at 5 p.m.

Thursday will get under way with the market hog show at 8:30 a.m., followed by the judging of dessets/candies, arts and crafts, and cakes. At 12 noon, it's back to the livestock area for the market goat show. At 3 p.m. pies will be judges and the market lamb show begins followed by the steer show at 6 p.m.

On Friday, the animal shows continue with check-in time at 7:30 .m. for the market and breeding rabbits. At 8 a.m., the market rabbit show, followed by the breeding rabbit show will begin.

Judging of cookies will take pace at 9 a.m.; display judging is set for 10 a.m. The Ag mechanics show will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the dairy heifer and junior horse show. Bread judging is set for 12 noon.

At 1:30 p.m. Friday, the Pee-Wee show, featuring goats, lambs, hogs and rabbits will begin and at 2 p.m., check-out begins for non-sale items including steers, commercial heifers, hogs, lambs, goats, shop projects, dairy heifers and horses.

The awards program is scheduled for 5 p.m., to be followed by the auction of top entries in each division beginning at 6 p.m.

Something new has been added to this year's fair - a carnival! During this year's youth fair, a carnival will be located at the Expo Center from March 1st and continue through March 4th.
