After a strong showing in the preseason with a 4-0 scrimmage record the Lumberjacks saw themselves up against a determined opponent with vengeance on their minds Monday night.
The Lumberjacks donned new uniforms on Monday night to face the Trinity Tigers in the first game of the 2007 season at home at Lewis “Pop” Jordan Field.
The Trinity Tigers came out big in the first inning with four runs scored. A number that the Lumberjacks would not be able to overcome during the course of the game despite a strong showing from pitcher Cutler Ruby.
Ruby held the Tigers to only two more runs following the first inning. He sent 12 batters back to the bench with strikeouts, walked two, gave up six hits and allowed five runs.
Diboll had 6 hits on the night with Robert Cedillo with 2 singles and a RBI, Carlos Moreno had a single and scored a run, Faustino Salaiz had a double and scored 2 runs, Nick Cortines had a double and RBI, and Kyle Prescott had a single.
Despite the effort from the Lumberjacks they could not bring themselves up to overcome the lead that the Tigers had maintained.
The Lumberjacks will continue their season this week with the Hudson Tournament which starts Thursday.
Diboll will be playing Jasper Thursday night and 2 games Friday against Livingston and Hemphill and all 3 of those games will be in Diboll. The tournament will continue on Sat. with games and times TBA.
