Ramon "Raymond" Cantu, Sr., 81, of Diboll, was born November 4, 1925, in Lyford, Texas, the son of the late Dolores (Montalvo) and Edwardo Cantu. He passed away Saturday, February 17, 2007, in a local hospital. Mr. Cantu was retired from Temple-Inland, following 23 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and raising animals. He loved meeting and being around people, and especially enjoyed telling stories. Mr. Cantu was in the coffee drinker group at Brookshire Bros. in Diboll. He was a member of Primera Iglesia Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lucia Cantu of Diboll, whom he married on April 18, 1948; daughter, Yolanda Pena of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and George Jimenez of Diboll; son and daughter-in-law, Adolfo and Delia Cantu of Reedley, California; sons, Ernest Cantu and Rodolfo Cantu, both of Diboll; daughter and son-in-law, Zulema and Wally Mendoza of Pollok; son and daughter-in-law, George and Delores Cantu of Lufkin; son Richard "Ricky" Cantu of Diboll; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cantu was preceded in death by his son, Ramon Cantu, Jr.
Services for Mr. Cantu weree held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Baldamar Gaitan, Jr., officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Haven Cemetery in Diboll.
