The Angelina Retired Teachers / School Personnel Association met Wednesday, February 21, at the Stubblefield Learning Center, Lufkin. Sue Baker, President, opened the meeting with a prayer and pledge to the flag. She reported the current membership count to be two hundred fourteen.
Willie Mae Burley followed with an inspiring devotional.
In honor of Black History month, Reverend Bettie Kennedy presented an interesting narrative in the life of Sojourner Truth. A question and answer session followed.
Linda Anderson, Community Service Chairperson, announced a total of 42,480 community volunteer hours reported to the state, with Charlotte Pruitt accumulating the most hours in our association.
Bob Ham, Legislation / Bylaws Chairperson, gave an overview of proposed amendments to the ART / SPA bylaws with a vote to be taken at the next meeting. He also discussed various bills in the state legislature regarding retirees.
Judy Hennington, Nominating Committee Chairperson, presented a list of recommended officers for the 2007-2008 year. A vote was taken and passed to accept the list of officers as it stands.
Members were reminded of the upcoming TRTA State Convention on April 14-16 in Austin. All members were urged to attend.

The next meeting will be held on March 21st at the Stubblefield Learning Center, Lufkin.
