In a display of skill that is surely a sign of things to come this season the Diboll Lady Jacks defeated the Center Lady Roughriders at home last Tuesday night. The ladies from Center made the long trip only to see themselves blown away by both the Diboll JV and Varsity teams. The Lady Jacks displayed all the skills they had been honing in the pre-district season from superb pitching, hitting, fielding and base running.

If this is any sign of things to come in district 20-3A for the Lady Jacks then everyone should sit up and pay attention; the Lady Jacks are looking to give their district opponents a run for their money this season.

In the opening game the Lady Jack Junior Varsity came out onto the field with a focus that Center could not match. Led by Angela Williams's pitching Diboll gave Center nothing short of a beating with a 12-3 win.

Williams dominated the Lady ‘Rider batting with seven strikeouts and two walks while only allowing three hits and three runs. Not shy on the other side of the plate either Williams put up a double, a RBI and scored three runs as she helped lead the offensive strike for the Lady Jacks.

The big plays at bat came from Kayla Martel, daughter of Athletic Director Gary Martel, with a huge double, a home run and three RBI and Liz Castillo who posted a triple, a double, two RBI and two runs scored.

Other Lady Jacks didn't hold anything back either with Ruby Hernandez had a single, a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Caycee Carroll made other offensive strides by the JV Lady Jacks with one run scored, Jessica Aguillar with an RBI, Carolina Silva with a run scored, Dominique West with one run scored, Lauren DuBose with a single and Mayra Silva with an RBI.

Once the dust settled from the ferocious JV game the Varsity Lady Jacks and Lady ‘Riders hit the field in what Center was hoping for as a change of pace from the previous game. They would not hold to such a hope for long as the Lady Jacks once again pounded in run after run and held their opponent at bay with strong pitching.

With two home runs hammered out in the game, one each by Chelsea Waters and Hope Lakey, the Lady Jacks were nearly unstoppable at the plate. The fierce offensive push by the Lady Jacks and excellent plays in the outfield gave Diboll the win over Center 11-1.

At the plate for the Lady Jacks Waters led the way with a single, a double, a home run, one run scored and four RBI. Hope Lakey closely followed her as she put up a home run, one run scored, one RBI and one stolen base.

Other offensive stats for the Lady Jacks are: Izuki Moreno with two singles, two runs scored and a stolen base; Tracey Morado with a double; Jasmine Lewis with a stolen base; Danae Lakey with a single; Natalie DeJesus with a single, a double, one run scored and one RBI, Monica Mettlen with a single, one run scored and one RBI and Ashley Wilson with a triple, one run scored and one RBI.

Pitching for the Lady Jacks against Center was Tracey Morado, who gave up six hits, had six strikeouts and one walk. The team had three errors.

The Lady Jacks play at home Friday against Central with the JV game starting at 4:30 pm and the Varsity game to follow. The Lady Jacks will play Center again next Tuesday in district play with games starting at 4:30 pm.

Come out and support the Diboll Lady Jacks.
