Funeral services for A. C. Lunsford, 82, of Lufkin were held Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 1 p.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment followed in the McKindree Cemetery.
Mr. Lunsford was born January 16, 1925 in Garrison, to Winnie (Morgan) and Acie Bob Lunsford, and died Sunday, March 11, 2007 in a local hospital. Mr. Lunsford had lived in Lufkin since 1956.
He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II, and worked for Southern Pacific Railroad and Lufkin Industries. He was a member of the Mt. Union Baptist Church. Mr. Lunsford loved to be outside and work in his garden, and enjoyed hunting, riding horses and talking to friends. He never met a stranger. Holidays were his favorite time when all the family was together. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life and he thought they were all special and unique. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Flossie Lunsford of Lufkin; son, Jimmy Dale Lunsford of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Larry Travis and Mary Lunsford of Lufkin; grandchildren and spouses, Jerry and Linda Miller, Larry and Emily Duke, Allen and Gail Lunsford, Michael and Stefanie Hicks, Michael Lunsford, Jason and Deidre Tucker, Jason and Jennifer VanKleiman, Brandy Gingerett and Nicole Gingerett; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Audrey Gay of Garrison; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winnie and Acie Bob Lunsford; brother, Doyle Lunsford; and sister, Gladys Lunsford.
Pallbearers were Eddie Lunsford, Rory Honea, David McShan, Matt Miller, Jerry Miller and Jason Tucker.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home, Lufkin.
