The Diboll Lumberjacks ended spring break with mixed results following two district games against the Center Roughriders on Tuesday and the Carthage Bulldogs on Friday. At home on Tuesday the Lumberjacks slid past the Roughriders for a 5-3 win, while on Friday Diboll found themselves at the low end of an 8-0 Carthage shutout.

Against the Roughriders the ‘Jacks were led on the mound by Kyle Prescott who pitched a complete game with six strikeouts, allowing one walk, four hits and three runs.

Despite several errors by the Lumberjacks three innings were ended from skillful execution of picking off runners attempting to steal. Prescott picked off a runner trying to leave second base, catcher Aaron Rush picked off a runner trying to steal second base and Kylan Herchman to Carlos Moreno to Cutler Ruby resulted in a gunned down runner trying to advance to third base to make double play. This helped the Lumberjacks hold down the Roughriders until the ‘Jacks could muster their batting and take the win.

The Lumberjack win resulted from two hits and a double from Rush and a single from Chance Johnson.

On Friday night things didn't go so well for the Lumberjacks when the Carthage Bulldogs hit the field with murder in their eyes. The Lumberjacks couldn't manage to get a grip on the game with the Bulldog pitching bringing them down at every turn even while Diboll's own pitcher Ruby maintained his usual prowess.

Ruby pitched eight strikeouts, four walks, hit one batter, allowed eight hits and eight runs.

Things remained scoreless until Carthage put in two runners at the bottom of the third. Things would remain 2-0 with the Bulldogs in the lead until the bottom of the sixth when several errors allowed Carthage to put up the final score of 8-0.

For the Lumberjacks at the plate Ketaraus Stanton posted a double and a walk, Ruby had a single and a walk, Robert Cedillo had a sacrifice bunt and a walk, Carlos Moreno received a walk and Chance Johnson got on with an error.

The Lumberjacks will travel to Huntington this Friday and host Crockett next Tuesday as they continue district play. Both games start at 7:00 pm.
