Council votes to close portion of Park Street

The Diboll city council members met in regular session Monday, March 19 with several items on the agenda.

City manager Kenneth Williams addressed the council with a presentation of the new website, prepared by the webmaster firm Bill Cameron Consulting, Mr. Williams explained that the site not only provides interactive video and audio capabilities, but also provides information about the city of Diboll. It also allows citizens to request city services via the internet.

Eric Carver, CPA., representing the firm of Axley and Rode, gave the annual audit report which show no major findings.

The council discussed the proposed closing of the southern portion of Park Street in Diboll at the request of the Library board. This partial closing involves the southern portion of the street, approximately 0.258 acres in the J. A. Prado Survey A-38 to accommodate the proposed $2,000,000 expansion of the T. L. L. Temple Memorial Library. The library will expand on the west and north sides of the existing property. The action was unanimously approved by the council.

The council also approved the reappointment of James Rhone, Stacy Cooke and Roy Hall, to act as commissioners for the Housing Authority Board of the city of Diboll.

Other matters discussed and approved included:

€ Allow for the placement of equipment on highway rights-of-way to monitor compliance with traffic control signals.

€ Naming election officials for city elections.

€ Approve bid from Philpott Ford for cab on pothole patching machine.
