Funeral services for Retha Elaine Mitchell Means, 76, of Lufkin were held Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 3 p.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Charles Roberts officiating. Interment follwed in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
Mrs. Means was born January 18, 1931 in Lufkin, to Zula (Chandler) and Sherman Mitchell, and died Monday, March 19, 2007 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Means had lived in Lufkin most of her life, but had also lived in Houston, Las Vegas and Mt. Charleston, Nevada. She was the owner of Realty World Retha and Associates, and was a member of the Lufkin Realtors Association, Texas Realtors Association and National Realtors Association. Mrs. Means was a member of the Denman Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John Means of Lufkin; son, Jase Shepherd of Lufkin; grandson, Christian Shepherd of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and Herman Chalker of Lufkin, Oleta and Billy Stewart of Lufkin and Madaline and Ray Casper of Burton; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Eileen Mitchell of Ennis; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James Mitchell.
Pallbearers were Gary Mitchell, Greg Mitchell, Tim Stewart, Keith Lewing and Sherman Minter.
Honorary pallbearers were Herman Chalker, Jerry Chalker, Christian Shepherd and Ray Casper.
Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home, Lufkin, directors, were entrusted with the arrangements.
