DR, PEYTON LINWOOD

Feb. 14, 1926 - Mar. 21, 2007

Dr. Peyton Linwood Denman, 81, of Lufkin, was born February 14, 1926, in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Cleo Lydia (Mantooth) and Kester Walker Denman, Sr. He passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at his residence.

Dr. Denman was a retired physician, and had resided in Lufkin most of his life. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Lufkin. Dr. Denman was a U.S. Navy veteran. Dr. Denman was a member and past president of the Angelina County Medical Society and held numerous committee appointments in the organization. He was a member of the Texas Medical Association and of the American Medical Association. He, being a medical political activist, served a ten-year tenure as Congressional District Chairman and member of the board of directors of TEXPAC (Texas Medical Political Action Committee). He was past Chief of Staff of Memorial Hospital of Lufkin and served on staff of both Memorial and Woodland Heights General Hospital. He served on many committees in these institutions over the years. He was instrumental in starting the ICC Unit at Memorial Hospital and in training the nurses for this unit. He was President and Chairman of the Board of Internal Medicine Associates of Lufkin.

Dr. Denman served as a senior board member of the Lufkin-Conroe Telephone Exchange, which his two grandfathers started. He donated his parents' and grandparents' homesteads to the City of Lufkin, thereby creating Mantooth Park. He made numerous medical and educational donations around the city that still exist.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Belle Koch Denman of Lufkin; his children and their spouses, Jana and Michael Mapps, Cathy and Meb Todd, Jill and Denton Amend, and Warren and Barbara Culwell; grandchildren, Alexandra Trimble, Madison Trimble, Rob Trimble, Chris and Tricia Todd, Clark and Laura Todd, Jay Todd, Preston and Toni Amend, Aryn Amend, Phillip Amend, Lauren Claire Culwell and Rachel Culwell; sister, Caledonia Denman Moore; sister-in-law, Mary Denman; and nieces and nephews, Bill and Lynn Munn, Kester Denman, III., John and Holly Moore, and Steve and Debra Moore.

Pallbearers were John Moore, Meb Todd, Steve Moore, E.J. Bowers, Kester Denman, III., Joe Carter Denman, Michael Mapps and Bill Temple.

Funeral services for Dr. Denman were held Saturday, March 24, 2007, in the First Christian Church of Lufkin with Reverend Mike Hunter and Reverend Warren Culwell officiating.

Entombment follow ed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
