ROBERT L. MYERS

Sept. 1, 1917 - Mar. 24, 2007

Services for Robert Leslie Myers, 89, of Diboll, were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2007, in the Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel with The Reverend Douglas J. Tucker officiating. Burial will be in the White Chapel Memorial Gardens in DeWitt, New York, at a later date.

Mr. Myers was born September 1, 1917, in Syracuse, New York, the son of the late Hazel I. (Taylor) and Clarence Henry Myers. He died Saturday, March 24, 2007, in a Lufkin hospital.

Mr. Myers was retired from the Fiberboard Division of Temple-Inland, following 10 years of service. He had a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry Service. He graduated from SUNY Ranger School in Wanakena, New York, in 1939. Mr. Myers served his country in the United States Army during World War II, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant at the time of his discharge. During his varied career, he lived in Liberia and Brazil, as well as several different states. He was a member of St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, and had been a resident of Diboll for the past 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Myers of Lufkin; sons, Donald Myers of Suffern, New York, Martin Myers of Ithaca, New York, and James Myers of Taiwan; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lucile Myers, in 1973.

Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Diboll Post No. 8933.
