Beulah Congregational Methodist homecoming set for April 15
WITHSTANDING TIME - The Beulah Congregational Church, founded in 1892, has been a mainstay, helping the needy and sharing with the community. The church is located on FM 58, nine miles south of Loop 287 in Lufkin.
For over 113 years, the Beulah Congregational Methodist has a history of helping needy people and sharing with the community. On April 15, another homecoming will be celebrated on the same grounds as was the first.
After moving from Ryan Chapel to Round Prairie, the church finally found a permanent home in the Beulah Community.
In the beginning, the facility was shared with the Beulah school until a new school was built in 1917.
There is a great deal of history associated with the Beulah church. The first pastor was Rev. Allen Squyres and since that time, the church has continued to be a mainstay of support and worship for it's little corner and Angelina County as well.
In recent years, the building became the home of the Jubilee Baptist Church, but since the last reunion, Jubilee now has its own facility in Diboll. Both churches have continued to grow with community support.
Life-long members of the community have been guest speakers for the homecomings held including Rev. Billy Harold, Rev. Dorothy Scarbrough and Lila Mae Strain with another prominent name in history, Pearl Weaver Havard to be added to that list with her topic "Sweet Beulah Land".
Homecoming events will begin at 10 a.m. with Wanda Strauss presenting selections on the piano.
John Strauss will give the opening prayer followed by congregational singing led by Trey Thomp;son and Trent Squyres.
Laura Young will provide special music. Herman Strauss will give the history of the church following by songs by the Bear Creek Boys and Trent Squyres.
Rev. Myrton Thompson will deliver the message followed by lunch at 12:30 and more congregational singing beginning at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
