Fred Travis Whitehead, 87, of Lufkin, was born December 7, 1919, in Angelina County, Texas, the son of the late Anna Bertha (Harrell) and John Jessie Whitehead.
He passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at his residence.
Survivors include his sons, Malcolm Ricks of Lufkin and Danny Epps of Spring; daughter, Rita Epps DeLaFosse of Wimberley; stepdaughters, Lynn Glover and Kay James, both of Lufkin; stepson, Keith Sumrall of Hudson; sister, Gladys Massingill of Fairview; brothers, John Burnis Whitehead of Lufkin, Jewel B. Whitehead of Arkansas, Luther Clovis Whitehead of Lufkin and W.J. (Wilton) Whitehead of Lufkin; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mr. Whitehead was preceded in death by his wives, Vernice P. Whitehead and Claudie Whitehead; son, Freddy Gene Whitehead; sisters, Gracie Offutt and Florence Turner; and brothers, Denton Whitehead and Grady Whitehead.
Services for Mr. Whitehead were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2007, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Horace Fletcher and Reverend Ernest Massingill officiating. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Gipson Funeral Home; Philip Snead, director, was in charge of arrangements.
