Surrounded by family, Bill M. Stewart, age 80, entered the loving arms of God on Friday, April 13, 2007. A celebration of life was held Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Calvary Baptist Church in Lufkin. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Stewart was born in Woodville, Texas on November 15, 1926 to the late Ray and Lillie Mae (Meek) Stewart. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and married Oleta Mitchell on October 10, 1947. Mr. Stewart was an educator in the Lufkin School System, having been a history teacher, principal, tax assessor/collector and Assistant Superintendent for Finance for the school district. Other than family, his greatest joy was in genealogy, Brothers of the Cup coffee group, and Heritage Village in Woodville.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Oleta Mitchell Stewart of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Marty Cipolla of Fort Worth and Betty and Keith Lewing of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Kim Stewart of Sulphur Springs and Tim and Darlene Stewart of Houston; sons, David Stewart of Toledo, Ohio, Ted Stewart of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, Amie Kristen Benson, Kristi and Matt Smith, Jenny and Carlos Caldera, Clark Lewing, Tyler Lewing, Mitchell Stewart, Kasey Stewart, David Lewing, Courtney Stewart, Bailey Stewart, Alicia and Tim Bryant and Amanda Spruill; great-grandchildren, Kendra and Logan Smith and Christian and Hayley Caldera; brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and Jacqueline Stewart; in-laws, Billy Jo Stewart, Lucille and Herman Chalker, Bob and Eileen Mitchell, Madelyn and Ray Casper and John Means; and many nieces and nephews and other family members. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Lillie Mae Stewart; and brothers, Sam Stewart and Charles Ray Stewart.
Pallbearers were his sons, Bill, David, Ted and Tim Stewart, and sons-in-law, Marty Cipolla and Keith Lewing.
Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons, Mitchell Stewart, Clark Lewing, Tyler Lewing, David Lewing; grandsons-in-law, Matt Smith and Carlos Caldera; and the Brothers of the Cup.
Gipson Funeral Home; Bill Swearingen, Director, was in charge of services.
