Errors plague Diboll in 8-1 loss to Bulldogs; final home game Friday
It was a tough week for Diboll baseball losing at home on Tuesday to No. 1 Carthage 17- 0 and then losing to second place Hudson Friday night 8-1.
After getting two wins the week before over Rusk and Center and joining the battle for the third place spot, they will need to win their last three games and hope for Rusk, Crockett, and Central to record losses and it can still be an exciting finish.
Diboll will play two of those teams so they are in control of their own destiny.
In the game against Carthage, Kyle Prescott takes the loss on the mound with Philip Hopkins and Robert Cedillo pitching in relief. Prescott, Cedillo, Ketaurus Stanton, Carlos Moreno, and Cutler Ruby all had singles and Stanton also had a walk.
In the game against Hudson Cutler Ruby gets the loss pitching 4 2/3 innings with three strikeouts, six walks, one hit batter, four hits, and six runs scored.
Kyle Prescott pitched one 1/3 innings with one strikeout, one walk, two hits, and two runs scored.
Too many errors spelled the doom for this game for the Lumberjacks. A nice double play ended the first inning with fly ball caught by Stanton and the throw to first base to Chance Johnson tagged the runner who failed to connect with the bag; catcher Aaron Rush threw out the runner trying to steal second.
Stanton threw out runner in the fourth inning trying to advance to third and in the six inning, a hard hit ball knocked Prescott's glove off his hand and ball went to Nick Cortines at second who fired to first for the out.
The Lumberjacks will be playing their last home game on Friday against the Huntington Red Devils. The Jacks have four seniors who will be recognized that night.
