Senior night in Diboll - Lumberjacks down Huntington 2-0 in Friday action

It was senior night Friday night at Pop Jordan field as the Diboll Lumberjacks played host to the Huntington Red Devils and the Devils came to town with trying to break into the win column, but the 'Jacks had other ideas.

Carlos Morena was the winning pitcher with Kyle Prescott on the mound in relief for Diboll getting the save.

Hits were slim for both teams so the game ended up being good pitching and good defense.

Carlos Moreno was the winning pitcher with Kyle Prescott getting the save on the mound.

Moreno had five strikeouts, one walk, gave up only three hits, and no runs. The last hit was the first batter in the top of the 7th who hit a double to leftcenter field and then Moreno and Prescott traded spots to finish the game.

The next batter hit a ball that was knocked down at second base but the throw to first was not in time and runners were at the corners and the third batter of the inning walked to load the bases with no outs. Prescott then decided to watch the next three batters swing at air as he struck out the next three to preserve the win and shutout.

As the home stands breathed a sigh of relief the 'Devil fans were shaking their heads at what might have been.

Faustino Salaiz had a double and RBI; Ketaurus Stanton had a double, hit by pitch, stolen base, run; Chance Johnson was hit by pitch, had a single; courtesy runner Cody Stifle had a stolen base, and Joey Solis reached on an error, stolen base, and a run.

Prior to the game, four seniors were honored with their parents: Kylan Herchman, Philip Hopkins, Carlos Moreno, and Alvaro Robles.

The 'Jacks have two games this week on the road. They played in Crockett last night and will finish up district play in Central.

Both games have JV starting at 4:30 followed by varsity around 7 p.m.
