Reception to honor Mayor James Simms to be held May 11
Diboll City Manager Kenneth Williams reports that many interesting things going on in the city this spring.
The City of Diboll Planning and Zoning Commission has approved the preliminary plat for the construction of the Deer Trace Subdivision Section VII. City staff has also reviewed and given preliminary approval of construction plans for the subdivision. Scotch Investments is looking to add an additional twenty five lots on the east side of the existing Deer Trace Subdivision. Lot sizes will run from .33 acres to .61 acres. Streets will consist of concrete construction with curb and gutters. City zoning commissioners also reviewed the Master Plat for the area.
Texas Department of Transportation crews have started repair on the Diboll Loop.
The stretch of highway which has been in need of repair for some time will get some major repairs as to provide a smoother riding surface. All rough spots will be milled and smoothed. Where required, areas will be patched and the edges of the highway made consistent. Then a chip seal will be applied. While a completely new road will not be constructed a much needed facelift will provide a good street for the foreseeable future.
The City of Diboll has submitted a letter to Union Pacific Railroad requesting that the increase in speeds of trains passing through town be reconsidered. City council membres and staff think that the increase in speed by Union Pacific from 49 mph to 55 mph creates a safety hazard in our town. The threat of crashes, hazardous spills and other potential accidents increase with higher speeds and necessitated the request to keep the speed at 49 mph.
On May 3, 2007 at 12 noon, the first National Day of Prayer ceremony will be held at the flag pole at Diboll City Local ministers and citizens will participate in a ceremony acknowledging family, education, church, business and government. Everyone is invited.
Mayor James Simms will be celebrating twenty-one years as Mayor of Diboll with a retirement reception on May 11, 2007 to be held at the Diboll Civic Center from 4:30pm to 6:00pm.
