Eldridge Dickinson "Dick" Ryman, age 63 of San Antonio passed away Thursday, April 26, 2007 in San Antonio, TX.
A memborial service will be held Monday, May 7, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Porter Loring Chapel, 1101 McCullough, San Antonio.
He was born July 29, 1943 in Lufkin, TX to parents Eldridge Boltes Ryman and Mildred Malone Ryman who preceded him in death. He was graduated from Lufkin High School in 1961, where he was a varsity cheerleader and worked to attain the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. He was graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. In 1970, he was graduated from Saint Mary's University Law School in San Antonio and began working for the Bexar County District Attorney's Office where, for many years, he was a lead felony prosecutor. Upon retirement he pursued a private practice in San Antonio representing criminal defendants. Dick was an avid outdoorsman and his love for the Boy Scouts led him to participate in scouting endeavors which included time spent at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. His nephews, Jimmy, Randell and Tucker Holmes were amazed at his knowledge of historical events, nature, geography and government. They called him a "walking encyclopedia".
He is survived by his sister, Judy Ryman Holmes and her husband James H. "Blackie" Holmes III of Dallas, TX; nephews and their wives, James Hill Holmes IV, M.D. and Susan of Winston-Salem, NC; Randell Ryman Holmes and Lori of Dallas, TX; Tucker Malone Holmes and Anne of Dallas, TX; step-mother, Pat Wright Ryman of Lufkin, TX; great-niece, Lane and great-nephew, Randell Robert; step-daughters, Kristin Meadows Mac Mane of Houston and Courtney Meadows of Austin; aunts, Virginia Ryman Larsson and husband Rolf of Louisville, KY, Barbara Ryman Degnan of Proctor, TX, Dorothy Malone Gumbert and husband Eddie of Wimberley, TX and many cousins.
Arrangements will be under the direction of Porter Loring, San Antonio.
