New postmaster arrives in time for annual food drive
According to Diboll Postmaster David Williams, the 15th annual Letter Carriers Food Drive will be held this Saturday in Diboll.
Although Williams has just recently assumed his new position, he is no stranger to the annual drive. "I have been with the postal service for over 19 years in several different locations, but the goal is the same everywhere - helping those in need." Williams said.
On Saturday, the nation's largest food drive to combat hunger, with the help of not only local letter carriers, but those around the national. The carriers will collect non-perishable food items as they delikver mail along their postal routes. It is suggested that residents leave the donations - such as canned products, cereals, pasta, rice, macaroni, dried beans and peas, in a bag near their mailbox on Saturday. The carriers will bring the items back to the post office and from there, items will be taken to the Christian Outreach Center in Diboll for distributoin.
"The amount reached last year was 2,860 of food items and we would love to exceed that goal this year. We encourage everyone to give generously and help our neighbors who need assistance." Williams said.
Williams, born and raised in Palestine is a U. S. Army veteran and happy to be in Diboll.
"I love the area, the town and the citizens I've met and I am happy to be the down-home atmosphere of Diboll. If I can be of assistance to patrons of the post office, please don't hestitate to give us a call." Williams said.
