The Diboll Independent School District appears to have found their man to lead the Diboll school system into the future with the appointment Brent Hawkins still forthcoming officially. Hawkins was named the lone finalist at a recent meeting of the D.I.S.D. Board of Trustees.
The appointment will cement Hawkins in the role he has held on an interim basis since former head man Horace Williams stepped down in February. Prior to that Hawkins has spent the last several years in numerous roles within Diboll, including Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, Diboll Middle and High School Principal.
A lifetime Angelina County citizen, he graduated from Huntington High School, received his Associates from Angelina College, and both his Bachelor's and Master's from Stephen F. Austin State University.
He has been married for nine year's and is the proud father of three girls. His six and five year olds will both be attending the Diboll school system next year, while his 17-month-old still has a while to go.
Hawkins wants to see Diboll excel in every aspect that it can, "I want to see us become a first class bonified district that parents from all over to want to bring their kids," Hawkins said.
He certainly has some experience with top schools and major turn around's in public schools. His experience has taken him from a Blue Ribbon District in Euless Hurst Bedford ISD to a "Recognized" campus in Sheperd ISD, and possibly most impressive was his ability to completely overhaul a poorly rated school system in Legget ISD.
Hawkins cites an old high school Ag Teacher as his inspiration for what he does. "He was my role model and I could never have gotten here without his influence," he points out.
"I don't know if you had told me twenty years ago I would be here, that I would have believed it." Hawkins continues, "I am extremely excited and honored for this opportunity."
Final approval of Hawkins appointment is expected to come at the May 29 board meeting.
