What will we watch now that Dancing with the Stars has a new champ, Apollo Anton Ohno, and American Idol has a new star Jordin Sparks?

One day last week Sid Robinson and his brother Jack Robinson came by the LHS Alumni Office. Joyce Griffith Robinson passed away on May 12, and her memorial service will be at the chapel at Woodridge Baptist Church, 850 Bert Kouns, in Shreveport, Louisiana on June 9 at 2 p.m. Sid wanted to see our Hall of Honor and had some annuals from his years at LHS since he graduated in 1942 to give to us. His brother "Bandy" Robinson, a graduate of 1938, left some things from the war years that they wanted to donate to the Hall of Honor. I met them at Texas Baking Company where the former Thompson's Coffee Group has moved every afternoon at 4 p.m. If you want to find Al Vinson, Jim Horn, Warren Ferden, Ernest Rutland, Jim Bob Odom, Joe Mack Welch, John T. Odom, Roscoe Ivy, Josh Duncan, Tony Bishop or Josh Duncan, they will be there. That is only Monday through Friday. I plan to go back and join them. They had interesting conversations.
The Lone Star Veterinary Clinic will open July 1 on Brentwood Drive. Craig Wood told me that it will be a satellite clinic catering to boarding animals in luxury suites. Some of these will have televisions along with the beds. They will have therapy and rehab with a swimming pool for dogs. The eight "condos" are named, and one is Elvis and another is Aggie. New vets coming are Justin and Lori Cavitt. Dr. Craig Wood and his partner Dr. Bradley Clary want all to know that East Texas Veterinary Clinic will remain as a full service facility and happy to have a "sister" clinic. Dr. John Wood is retiring in June and will spend his spare time on the golf course.
Pat and Buddy Colmer will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a party on June 9 hosted by their children Randall Colmer and Michelle Hughey.
I forgot that Bernice Maberry played Happy Birthday on her harmonica for me on my birthday. Thanks a million Bernice.
Erin Bryan, with Zimmerman Communications, sent me a note. Goodwill is working with PineCrest to host a "Clean Out and Clean Up" day on Thursday, May 31 from 3-5:30 p.m. They will have a donation trailer parked on Tom Temple Drive over by PineCrest so that community members can drop off their donations. This is convenient for donors, and they appreciate PineCrest hosting the event. Goodwill uses its donations to fund job-training programs. The PineCrest folks are also cleaning out and will be donating numerous items, so I'm sure there will be some great finds in the Lufkin store in the weeks following the donations, once everything is processed. Erin is doing the PR and will graduate next May with her teaching degree. Goodwill is her client.

I am anxious to see Jazi, the new hippo at Ellen Trout Zoo. Charlotte Henley called me when Jazi arrived, but I could not get there for the big event. She will stay in quarantine for 30 days before she joins Nakili and Mara in the hippoquarium. We will mark the calendar. Mara will be moving to a zoo in Kansas so Jazi will be a companion of the same age as Mara for Nakili. Pancho, the male hippo, died exactly three months ago after swallowing a small rubber ball that obstructed his intestine.

Ernest and I joined Amy Yates and her friends and family for pizza and then went to see the preview showing of "Pirates of the Caribbean 3, At World's End" for her 14th birthday. The first showing was at 8 p.m. and over at 11 p.m. There was a long line waiting to see the midnight showing. Johnny Depp was pretty wild as the swash-buckling pirate Captain Jack Sparrow. Ernest and I saw #1 and it helped us know the characters. The kids had mixed comments about the movie. Anyway, Happy Birthday Amy daughter of Karla and Stephen Yates.
Mary Byrd is home from Arizona where she had parathyroid surgery. Granddaughter Catherine Birmingham is here to help with the recuperation and Susan Byrd was here several days visiting with Mary and her dad Joe Byrd.
Debbie Lambing and daughter Rivers Carr have the Lillielu Day Lily farm. Rivers is married to Bart Carr, son of Anita Martin. They have two daughters Lucia, who is 2, and Lillie, who is 8 months. Thus the name of the farm. The farm will be open from May 20 to June 20. The blooms are awesome. You reach it off of highway 103 west.
I noticed the new building going up between Sam's and Tractor Supply Co. I called Tara Watson and found out the scoop. It will be an urgent care clinic operated by Dr. Michael Iversen, emergency medicine specialist, and Dr. Savitha Balakrishna, who is a hospitalist. It will be an after hour clinic separate from Woodland Heights Medical Center. In the center of the building will be Woodland Heights physical therapy, occupational therapy and audiology facility. There will be an office for rent on the right. Goodwin-Lasiter, Inc is the builder.

Barb and Tom Flournoy were in Washington D.C. for Jordan's commissioning into the Order of St. George for Witherspoon Fellowship participants. The black tie affair was at the Navy Memorial. Then Jordan came home and with two friends Austin Rutherford and Aron Hughes caught a flight to Cologne, Germany. They traveled to Paris where they stayed in a hostel for several days and took the train to Cinque de Terre on the west coast of Italy. After Rome, they went to Lucerne, Switzerland and from there to the Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald, Switzerland. The train took them through the Black Forest of Germany stopping to see Heidelberg, Baden-Baden and Cologne. On this economy style trip they each took one backpack and a money belt. Jordan half filled his backpack to bring home souvenirs. Only young men would be happy traveling with half a back full of supplies????
Martha and Ray Carswell have had some tests and are waiting on the results. They were in The Woodlands with Jon, Jill, Emma and Abby over the Memorial Day weekend.
Ernest and I spent several days at the lake lot on Sam Rayburn. It was peaceful and relaxing. Ernest and Ern, Jr. caught fish and we have them in the freezer. Barbara and Ern had four-year-old granddaughter Hailey visiting from Granbury for the week. Let me hear about your holiday.
The American Flags flying on Reen Street made me feel so patriotic. We never can say "Thank you" enough to our service people.
