BESSIE DUNKIN

Mar. 12, 1921 - May 26, 2007

Bessie Bowen Dunkin, 86, of Lufkin, was born March 12, 1921, in Rockland, Texas, the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth (Spell) and Thomas W. Bowen. She passed away Saturday, May 26, 2007, at her residence.

Services for Mrs. Dunkin were held Tuesday, May 29, 2007, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Harold Hancock officiating. Interment followed in the Kitchens Cemetery.

Mrs. Dunkin was a homemaker, and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an active volunteer for the Angelina County Alliance for Mental Health. Mrs. Dunkin was a member of Timberland Drive Church of Christ.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bo and Teresa Dunkin of Lufkin; daughter-in-law, Frances Barnes of Lufkin; grandchildren, Jarrod Len Dunkin, Katrina Smith and husband Ruston, Jennifer Dunkin and Kelli Dunkin; great-grandchildren, Riley Smith, Reed Smith and Hannah Dunkin; special friends, Dick and Bonnie Donovan and their daughter Gina, all of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Mrs. Dunkin was preceded in death by her husband, Denman Dunkin; son, Len Dunkin; brothers, Crawford Bowen and G. B. Bowen; and sister, Opal Gaylor.

Pallbearers were Harold Goggans, Richard Hopson, Johnny Purvis, Jerry Barker, John Adams and Tommy Hurst. Honorary pallbearers were Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
