Splash Day at Walter Allen Park Saturday

Come one, come all - the much-anticipated Splash Day at the Walter Allen Park in Diboll is Saturday.

After months of hard work by employees of the Diboll Housing Authority, the Park has received a much-needed face-lift. The pool has been refurbished, the admission booth and pool house has been completely rebuilt and beautiful flowers have been planted in preparation for opening day.

Officially dedicated on May 25, 1958, the Park has been a hub of recreational hours spent by children of all ages, from near and far.

To make it an even better opening day, it's free. There will be no admission charge to enter the pool area this Saturday.

Fun will continue throughout the summer as the Park offers a great place for picnics, family outings and gatherings and plenty of shady areas to just kick back and relax.

Hours of operation will be from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the pool is 50 cents for children up to age 13 and $1 for adults.

The Park, originally named Lakeside Park, was re-named in 1977 to honor a long-time Southern Pine Lumber Company employee Walter Allen. Mrs. Arthur Temple Sr., who contributed to the funds to build the pool, congratulated the community for using the name of the late Walter Allen in their recreation program. The park, located on South First Street and, continues to be enjoyed by the children, young and old, of Diboll each year.
