Funeral services for Edna Irene (Griffin) Bawcom, 71, of Lufkin were held Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the Salvation Army Church of Lufkin with Captain Hank Harwell and Dr. Daryl Smith officiating. Interment followed in the Sims (Rocky Hill) Cemetery.
Mrs. Bawcom was born March 27, 1936 in Huntington, Texas, to the late Eira Faye (Hall) and Earl Chester Shuemaker, and died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Bawcom was a lifetime resident of Angelina County and was greatly involved with the Salvation Army of Lufkin. She was employed there as a dietician, was a past Sunday school teacher in the church, was an assistant Girl Guard, and a past member of the League of Mercy. Mrs. Bawcom was a vibrant volunteer and a shining star for the Salvation Army.
Survivors include her son, John Griffin of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Jenny Griffin of Lufkin, Randall and Verna Griffin of Mountain Grove, Missouri and Gary E. and Wanda Griffin of Diboll; son, Corporal Timothy Griffin of Camp Pendleton, California; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Donnie Harrison of Lufkin and Peggy A. and Willie Fowler of Huntington; 32 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosie M. Roebuck of Waxhaw, North Carolina; brothers, George D. Shuemaker of Burnet and Eugene Shuemaker of Gun Barrel City; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
Pallbearers were Brian Burton, Willie Fowler, Danny Griffin, Joshua Griffin, Steven Griffin and Jacob Griffin.
