Nelda and Howard Horton spent their 5th anniversary, (June 1st). by flying to Venice, Italy May 30 th for 2 days and then boarded a cruise ship for the Greek Isles. They went on a gondola ride early in the morning and were the first ones out for the day, which was indescribably... Marvelous! On their cruise they visited Mykonoz, Athens, Katakolon, Corfu, and Split, Croatia. All ports were breathtaking! Howard, Mr. Photographer, took in excess of 600 photos! They were deeply touched seeing the Acropolis, Olympus, etc. The trip was FABULOUS, needless to say. After disembarking from the cruise ship, they flew to London for the evening...did a little shopping, and then headed back to DFW.
Dry Hinson fell at home and broke her arm in three places. She had surgery and has a medal rod between her shoulder and elbow. Husband James called 911 to take her to the hospital. They had been to Goodrich to their Angelina Sams' RV Club monthly meeting in their car because their motor home was in the shop and had come back early from the meeting. On the way to the hospital, her cell phone rang and it was Delbert Williford calling from Goodrich. Some one had heard it over the scanner and called him about Dry being taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

Despite the inclement weather, a host of family and friends were present to congratulate them for their long life together. In lieu of gifts, the guests were asked to bring "memories" that best commemorated the events shared with the happy couple. A large bulletin board and a display table were loaded with smiling photos, highlighting their long life together. Hosting the occasion were the children of Myrl Ray and Virginia: Tim Luce and Lanette Childers, assisted by friends, Janet Howell, Annette Johnson and Katrina Harris. Debra and Steve Moore, Karen and Ben Broughton, Kim and Bill Malnar, and Kathy and Jay Jost went canoeing on the Buffalo River in Arkansas. They had a great time with their starting on Thursday morning and taking out on Saturday afternoon. They canoed about 10 miles a day and saw a family of otters, deer, raccoons, beavers, and lots of pretty scenery. It was really pretty and a great cardio workout!

The children are: Michael and Elizabeth Card from San Antonio; Carol Card Hill from Virginia with her son George Lord from North Carolina; Cathy Card and Scott Sterling from Virginia with their son Jay Sterling; Richard and Nancy Card from New York. They each read a letter to their dad and I know it was hard telling him of the times in their life that they remembered him as their dad, magician, friend, and disciplinarian. Many friends joined the children in celebrating his "happy birthday".

Darin and Susan Simpson took Emily and Chad Parks with Pierce and Jackson to Disney World for a week. While they were gone, Russell Simpson from Rochester, New York came to visit his mother Vivian Simpson at PineCrest. While he was here, Russell gave an informal concert on his clarinet accompanied by Mary Jane Cable on the piano at PineCrest. It was enjoyed by all of the residents since Russell plays the Glenn Miller style music and they can sing along. Sarah Jane Thames told me that Mary Jane takes requests and plays the piano from 3 - 4 p.m. every Friday in the Fireside room. Martha Carswell remembered eating at the Cable Café when she was in school at TCU.
I had an email that was passed on from Jane Burch Burross about her brother Bob Burch (LHS Class of 1957) who has been the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Misawa, Japan near a U S Army base. On May 25, he was diagnosed with a virulent form of leukemia, which is very fast moving and attacks children and people over 65. He has been given a one percent chance of survival. Miraculously, he has survived and will be taking chemo every four weeks. The problem is trying to get him back home to Knoxville, Tennessee. His body is very weak, and he has lost much of his muscle. Jane was hoping that someone may be able to help get him back home. Jane's work telephone is: 214-630-6121. Her email is: applied@airmail.net. The trip is almost 24-hours. Please keep him in your prayers. Maybe Jim Wark will keep us updated.

Thursday I met Ernest as I was getting an Academy gift card for the Jumpers. He knew about the certificate from Julie and Rocky, so he was checking the merchandise. Friday he went back to spend them and said there were more women than men at Academy. Ernest and Ern, Jr. fished Saturday and Sunday at Rayburn while Barbara Rowe, Mary Margaret Stevens and I waited for fresh fish for our supper. This was Ernest's happy Father's Day.
