Fireworks Extravaganza slated for July 4th celebration

Organizers are finalizing plans for a giant 4th of July celebration to be held at the Ellen Trout Park in Lufkin.

Thanks to second year sponsors, Love and Wills Law firm, in conjunction with the City of Lufkin, a fireworks display, set to begin at 9:15 p.m. will cap-off this special day for Angelina County residents.

But, you don't have to wait for dark to begin your day. Festivities will get underway at the park at 1 p.m. featuring entertainment for kids including a "Kid-Catch" fishing derby. Kids will have the opportunity to 'wet-a-hook' and hone their fishing abilities. Also, a favorite for the kids will be a a moon walk and water slide.

Of course, what trip to the park would be complete without a stroll through the zoo, and, vendors will line the park area with booths displaying arts and crafts and food items that are sure to please your palate.

Also, if you want to be at the park's lakefront area for the fireworks but worried about parking - don't! The Lufkin Independent School District is providing bus transportation to and from the park beginning at 5 p.m. and continuing until 8:45 p.m. There is no charge for the shuttle service and no admission charge to enter the park.

Another activity planned for Wednesday, July 4, is the Angelina County Farmer's Market 4th of July Celebration. You can select from the many vegetables, plants, etc., from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Also, the East Texas Working Dog Association will be there the first half of the day (8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon) with obedience and agility demonstrations. A parade of breeds will be held, introducing spectators to many different breeds of dogs. Also, the public can participate in dog contests. Friendly dogs on a leash are urged to come enter in the "Patriotic Pup" Costume Contest; Owner/Dog Look-Alike Contest; Best Dog Trick Contest; and "That Dog Will Eat Anything!" Contest. The contests start at 10 a.m. Entry fees are $1 per entry.
