The officers have just returned from Sugarland where they attended an officer's came for a week. Mothers attending the "Show Off" on Friday were Jennifer Cumbie, Rita Rush, Cristina Peitersen, Sheri Holcomb, and Susan Weber.

I visited with Jo Ann Nerren who started her radiation treatments at Memorial Hermann Cancer Center at the Woodlands. Her daughter Marilyn Troth and children Michelle and Martin are visiting for a month from Columbus, Ohio. Jo Ann, Marilyn and Michelle attended the ballet "Coppelia" at the Wortham Center in Houston for a girl's day out. Jo Ann and Gene were in Kerrville in February when she found the lump in her breast. She had her surgery on May 16 at Conroe Regional Medical Hospital by Dr. Blair Jordan of the Sadler Clinic in Conroe. The cancer showed up in her annual physical on April 5. She will have to have 35 treatments of the radiation and then we hope to see more of her.

Bettie Powell was working at the Final Touch Salon on her birthday. She had an early birthday celebration with her daughter Shaye Miller from Tyler, who was in town to celebrate Father's Day with Joe Powell. Shaye's husband and daughter, Darrel Miller and Rilee, were in Costa Rica visiting one of Darrel's friends. Their other daughter Shelby was at Soccer Camp at SMU. Bettie and Charlotte Sullivan made a trip out to the hill country antiquing and stopped at Gruene. They visited with Bettie's cousin who has a house on the Guadalupe River near Canyon Lake.
Brandy's at The Wishing Well is expanding to include clothes and shoes for infants and children to size 16. Some of her lines will include: Lana, Puddle Jumper shoes, Binky Coutoure, Haute Baby, Missteevus, Secret Wishes, 7 Jeans, and Nana Knits. Brandy Nair, owner, is excited that she is able to expand her women and junior lines to include children's apparel. Her expansion will cover the front of the Wishing Well Antiques that will be moving into the remodeled store in the rear of the building. Joann Roquemore is pleased that they will be utilizing the entire building for antiques and gifts for The Wishing Well and will include Brandy's and The Very Thing in the same location.
The Very Thing is expanding to include infant and children's clothes and accessories at The Very Little Thing. Nancy Winston and Lauren Ivy have been to market and shipments are arriving daily. They will have shoes, clothing, bedding, and toys. They will also have a baby registry. All of this goes along with their bridal registry and gifts that they carry.
Our lawn has a fungus and George at Lufkin Farm Supply gave us advice on how to get rid of it. Ernest said that no yard on our street has fungus but us!!!!!

The Lufkin Varsity, Junior Varsity, Freshman, and LMS squads attended National Cheerleader Association summer camp in Lufkin June 5-7. The private camp was held at Lufkin High School with 90 cheerleaders and coaches participating. NCA instructors taught new cheers, chants, dances, and stunt skills for the upcoming year. The Varsity squad was awarded the following team awards: Herkie Team Award, Stunt Smart Award and Spirit Stick. The Individual Award for Leadership went to Kirsite Molandes, co captain of the Varsity Squad. The National Cheerleader Association (NCA) All American Award went to Jasmine Hageon, Yashema Richards, Corrinn Robinson and Claire Brody. The JV squad was awarded the following Team Awards for Stunt Smart Award, and Spirit Stick. Individual awards going to the JV Cheerleaders for NCA All American went to Kendall King and Amy Scoggins. The Freshman squad was awarded the following Team Awards for Most Improved Team, Stunt Smart Award and Spirit Stick. Individual Awards for NCA All American went to Ashley Fredieu, Taylor Lowery and Rachel Smith. LMS squad was awarded the following Team Awards for Spirit Stick, NCA Spirit Award and Stunt Smart Award. Individual Awards for NCA All American went to Lindsey Cook, Julie Hemphill, Jaime Johnson, and Taylor Martin made Top All American for 2007 Camp. The Coaches are as follows: T.J. Patterson for Varsity; Andrea Mark for JV; Amanda Kingsley for Freshman; and Caron Cook for the LMS.
Mallory Dorman, Natalie Denman, Ikeshia Jackson, Bailey Watson and Brittany Nichols attended the Championship Volleyball Camp of East Texas at Stephen F. Austin. The girls were housed in Griffith Hall. Their instructors were players from the Ladyjack's team who worked with them on individual and team skills. These girls are 12 and will be in the 7th grade at Lufkin Middle School. Their parents are: Lorraine and Michael Dorman, Lisa and Jim Denman, Paul and Tracy Jackson, Karen and Van Watson, Terri and Jerrod Nichols.
Carlyn and Duncan Garner had his brother Lewie and wife Dee Garner from Lynchburg, Virginia for a week at Galveston. The highlights of the week were: a trip to the Astro game in Houston, the Sand Castle Competition at East Beach, dinner with Roger and Pat Johnson at Landry's in Kemah, Moody Gardens to see "Happy Feet" on the IMAX screen, and the play at the College of the Mainland Theatre. They gave me the name of an Italian restaurant that they liked called Di Bella's. Early in May, Duncan and Carlyn went to DisneyWorld for a week.
I saw Borie Nerren, owner of Fuller's Buffet, buying a slicer and that day I ate with her at Fuller's Buffet with Carolyn Hyman and we had turkey and dressing. Some that I saw enjoying the meal were: Judge Barry Bryan, Mary and James Gibbs, Tom Billingsley and Ernest Hudgens. Tina and Rayburn Hance were there and Tina said they were having a "date".
Rachel Summy had some tests in the hospital and daughters Louise Pickle and Judi Martin were here to check on her. Later in the week granddaughter Shana Martin McCracken and her five-year-old son Ian came for a visit.
Cay and Tom Billingsley were in New York City for five days and while there they attended the Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall and the Gala after the Tony's. They saw several winners carrying their "Tonys" at the Gala. They also saw the Yankee vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game. The new Yankee Stadium is scheduled for completion on April 2009.
Enjoying Mar Teres Tea Room and celebrating birthdays for Nancy Sloan, Gayla Canada and Wilsie Borden were: Colleen Prahl, Delle Meredith, Easel Walls, Mildred Smith, Evelyn McCullough, Ernestine Wilson and Linda Naff. They are all members of the Central Church of Christ. Wilsie Borden is the wife of their new minister and they were celebrating her belated birthday, which was in May. The minister Eli and Wilsie Borden moved here several months ago from Idaho.

Virginia Campbell was enjoying lunch at Mar Teres with daughter Robyn Dickinson and Ryan Milligan her 17-year-old granddaughter. Robyn, who had been teaching 5th grade at Hudson, is now Curriculum Specialist, K through 12, Math Coordinator on the administrative staff for Hudson ISD. She will complete her Master's in administration at SFA.
Another table enjoying Theresa Stokes and Margaret Purke's food at Mar Teres were Holly Gonzales, Martha Lever, and Michelle Schultz.
In a corner at Mar Teres Tea Room were Jane Johnson and Cissy Seely. Jane had wedding pictures from son Ramsey Johnson's marriage to Karen Wilson in Mexico. I saw the pictures later when Jane and I were at the grocery store.
Kittie Davis treated daughter Molli Davis to lunch at Mar Teres Tea Room for her 21st birthday with friends Jessica Cervantes and Shelly Davis. Molli is a senior at TCU in Fort Worth and will graduate in May.
Joyce Tullos and I went to Greenville on Thursday to visit her twin June Bone. We enjoyed our visit and lunch at Grandy's.
Prayers are answered. Bob Burch was able to make it from Japan to his home in Knoxville, Tennessee last Thursday without too much trouble. His and wife Mary Katherine' address is: 1701 Cove Creek Lane, Knoxville, TN 37919. Bob is in the hospital being evaluated and will pursue further treatment this week.
Hazel Main was in town from Sugar Grove, Illinois. Bruce and Trish Main brought her to Lufkin and returned to Sugar Grove with Delbert and Ivalene Parrott for a week. Hazel's hosts were Evelyn and Max Barley, Kathryn Craw, Pete and Opal Sumners. Becky and Roger Kelly took her to Tyler to meet her daughter Marian Main.
