Vernon Allred, 77, born in Lufkin on July 21, 1929, passed away Friday, June 22, 2007 at his home in Humble. Vernon was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses when he was only 13-years -and served as a faithful elder in the congregation until his death. He looked forward to the fulfillment of one of his favorite scriptures, Revelation 21:3-5. He was retired from AT&T where he had worked for 38 years.
He is survived by his wife LaVelle (Greening) Allred and their children: daughter Deborah and son-in-law Albert Lombardo of Atlanta, Georgia; son Desmond of Humble (daughter-in-law Luana preceded him in death); son Darien and daughter-in-law Jennifer of Lufkin. He had nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Versie (Russell) Woensdregt of Lufkin; his niece Barbara and her husband Royce Fritz, Sr. of Lufkin; brother-in-law Felix Howard Greening of Houston and countless other family members, spiritual children, loving friends and neighbors.
A memorial service was held Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the Berry Center, 8877 Barker Cypress Rd., Houston.
