Yearly pre-season annual pegs Diboll for fourth spot in '07

The magazine of all magazines, when it comes to Texas high school football, has had a couple of weeks to circulate around the area and it is most likely that those stacks did not sit long enough to collect any dust.

For the local Diboll faithful, it is not necessarily going to be well digested in the short term, but with Dave Campbell's Texas Football fourth place prediction for the Lumberjacks, it could very well turn into a motivating tool if nothing else for the gridiron locals.

District 20-3A nonetheless is sure to provide for some excitement on Friday nights, with last years three-way finish as a measuring stick.

The Lumberjacks are picked to come in behind the district's largest school Carthage, Crockett and Rusk. Rusk could definitely have an edge on everyone in the district when it comes down to experience. The Eagles are 17 players with 9 offensive and 6 defensive starters coming back.

The rest of the district looks fairly close in the experience area.

According to Campbell's, Head Coach Gary Martel will be looking for some big performances from last years big play maker Ketarus Stanton at running back. There should also be some focus on J.J. Hayes and Alex Castillo.

Diboll should make the competition tight, but unfortunately for Huntington the expectations is not even that high.

The Red Devils are picked to play cellar dwellers this season in 20-3A. According to Texas Football, Huntington will be relying heavily on wide receiver, C.J. Plyler, and looking for their backfield tandem of Scotty Rodgers and Cun Duong to provide some much needed help.

Texas Football also takes care of those of you interested in the 5-A powerhouse up north. The Lufkin Panthers are tapped at No. 13 in the state. Following last year's very disappointing early second round exit from the postseason, the Panthers are surely out to prove something.

Campbell's has the Panthers taking top honors in District 15-5A with The Woodlands and The Woodlands College Park slotted in the second and third spots. Of course in 5A there are four teams from each district in the playoffs, so the fourth slot in the district goes to Conroe, Conroe Oak Ridge and Magnolia finishing out the pack.

The first place selection for Lufkin says a whole lot about that program and their ability to retool from year to year. Losing Dez Bryant, A.J. Penson and Jeremy Claybon is not exactly an easy task to replace. They will be relying heavily on James Davis at wide receiver.

This year's edition, the 48th in its storied history, provides a great cover story looking at 3-A football players hitting the big time in college. Along with their in depth analysis of the Texas college scene and of course a look at the National Football League. Dave Campbell's will certainly fill the void for that football fan that just cannot wait for the fall to get here.

That college look of course provides some details on the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks, the local favorite, as well as, all the Big 12 football coverage you could possibly desire.

Speaking of the Big 12, it is going to be the season of Oklahoma according to the publication. The Sooners are earning some very high marks and could be looking to compete with a very strong Texas A&M Aggies group.

Texas Football shows the Big 12 to have a much different look than it has in the past couple of seasons with OU taking the Big 12 south. They are calling for TAMU in second, the University of Texas in third, with Texas Tech and Baylor rounding things out.

In the Big 12 north, it appears the writer's at Texas Football like the Cornhuskers of Nebraska, followed by Missouri, Kansas State, Colorado, Kansas and the Iowa Cyclones.

No matter what team you are rooting for on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, you will find just what you are looking for in this year's Texas Football.

Football season is just around the corner.
