The annual class reunion for five classes of Huntington High School (1938-1942) is held at the Christian Life Center of Huntington First Baptist Church with 32 alumni and spouses present.

The Angelina Playhouse Community Theater of Lufkin presents zany version of "The Odd Couple" adapted from the original play by Neil Simon. Jackie Collins directs while female leads include Melva Ecker as Olive Madison and Katrina York playing the role of Florence Unger.
Diboll High School Dazzlers Dance Team host "Dancing USA Dance Camp." Members of the 2002-2003 Dazzlers include Samantha Johnson, Jeni Wheeler, Samantha Yarbrough, Traci LaCox, Mandy Smith, Lynzee Sparks, Liz Ray, Myranda Ferguson, Nikki Johnson, Valerie Tamez, Cameron Hunter, Cassandra Krell, Brittany Duke and director Tracie Reynolds.
Billy C. Parker of Lufkin returns as VFW Post #1836 commander for the ninth consecutive year.
Construction of the new Hudson ISD Elementary School building is right on schedule and on target to move in doors in April of 2003.

Lufkin Police Department unveils bicycle patrol unit. Lufkin Police Officers Rodney Squyres and Scott Hamel become the first bicycle police officers for the city of Lufkin.

Diboll City Council open bids and consideration for action in the purchase of a pumper truck for the Diboll Volunteer Fire Department.
Directors of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments approve six grant applications to be submitted to state and federal agencies. The applicants include the cities of Tenaha, Center, Jasper Police Department, Lufkin Police Department, Onalaska and Stephen F. Austin State University.
The 11-12 year-old Pony Tails All-Stars of the Diboll Youth Softball League are Natalie Solis, Megan Baldree, Angela Rast, Christina Carroll, Amanda Diets, Cassidy Yates, Stephanie Abbott, Kari Lee Perez, Abby Anthony, Lindsey Harper, Vanessa Suarez and Coaches Chuck Mann, Paul Suarez and Ray Anthony.
Diboll's Bud Still ties for 27th in the Nike Tour's Hershey Open. Still shoots three-over par 237 and wins $1,412.

Memorial Medical Center of East Texas at Lufkin announces the appointment of Ann Sisco as community relations coordinator for the hospital's LifeCare psychiatric services unit.
Ribbon cutting ceremonies are held at Crown Colony Country Club for new radio station KUEZ-99FM. KUEZ-99FM radio station brings easy listen music to East Texas. Darrell Yates, Sr. who brought radio (KRBA) to East Texas over fifty years ago, cuts the ribbon.
Newly elected officers of the Diboll Lions Club include: Frank Mitchell and Don Hendrick, president; Richard Martinez, secretary/treasurer; Samuel Glass, tail twister; and Dave Martinez, incoming president.
Marine Cpl. Melvin E. Smith of Lufkin is awarded the Meritorious Mast while serving with 1st Force Service Support, Camp Pendleton, California.
Gospel singing is held at the Burke Pentecostal Church with Barbara Wilkins and God's Country Singers performing.
Boy Scout Troop 136 under the direction of Scoutmaster Burl Richardson and Assistant Scoutmasters Richard Richardson and Jason Parrish journey for a week of camping, archery, crafts, canoeing, outdoor fun and fellowship at Camp Pirtle. Scouts attending include Mark McCall, Mike Morse, Robert & Chris Sanders, Mike Simpson, Jason Riley, John Salles, Brandon Parrish, Russell Cone, Jeff Fredrick, Benji Womack, Don Mdaddux, Patrick Strickland, Tracy Nunn, Ryan Thomas, Neil Craig and Aaron Marsh.

Native Dibollian John Hannah is nominated to become United States Attorney. Confirmation is expected soon on the appointment from Washington.
1977 Diboll Little League All-Stars include Jeff Jackson, James Bray and Jerry Johnson (Braves); BaBa Gibson (Giants); Kevin Hurley, Patrick Johnson and Mike Johnson (Yankees); Andy Gossett and Curtis Windsor (Cardinals); Matt Amason and Randy Barkley (Indians); Marvin Scarborough and Dwain Harris (Dodgers); Jamie Cervantes (Cubs); and Managers David Scarborough and John Lowther.
R.L. Powell is the new owner of White Auto Store in Diboll, along with his son Bob. Former owner was Jerel Gillen.
