Funeral services for Gary C. Bridges, 55, of Fort Polk, Louisiana were held Sunday, July 1, 2007 at 4 p.m. in the Harmony Hill Baptist Church with Dr. John W. Greene officiating. Interment followed in the Fielder Cemetery.
Mr. Bridges was born January 16, 1952 in Lufkin, Texas, to Louise (Martin) and Glenn C. Bridges, and died Thursday, June 28, 2007 in a Louisiana hospital.
Mr. Bridges was a lifelong resident of Lufkin, and was a 1970 graduate of Lufkin High School. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1975, and was a deacon at Harmony Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Bridges had lived at Fort Polk for the past two years, working as Project Controls for Picerne Military Housing.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Del Lowery Bridges of Fort Polk; sons, Matthew Lowery Bridges and Martin Lee Bridges, both of Huntsville; brother, Carlton Bridges of Plantersville; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Paula Bridges of Lufkin; brother, Weldon Bridges of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Glenda and Billy Goodwin and Ona Gail and Kenneth Click, all of Lufkin; father-in-law, C. D. "Bubba" Lowery of Lufkin; sisters-in-law, Liz Bridges of Houston and Margie Russell of Houston; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shelly and Ken Marriott of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Glenn C. Bridges; brother, Ronny Bridges; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Bridges.
Pallbearers were Scott Bridges, Jeff Bridges, Ron Bridges, Clint Bridges, Josh Bridges, Gerry Dohn Bridges, Bryan Goodwin, and Jonathan Click.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Harmony Hill Baptist Church and employees of Picerne Military Housing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harmony Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 2708 South Chestnut St., Lufkin, Texas 75904.
