James Preston (J. P.) Eldridge, 93, of Lufkin, was born August 9, 1913, in Pineland, Texas, the son of the late Ouida (Johnson) and John Preston Eldridge. He passed away Friday, July 6, 2007, in a local nursing facility.
Graveside services for Mr. Eldridge were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2007, in the Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville, with Reverend Ira Bright officiating.
Mr. Eldridge was a self-employed mechanic for many years, but retired from Lufkin Coca-Cola Bottling Company following 13 years of employment. He was a member of the Christian Church, and a faithful member of the Berean Sunday school class of Lufkin's First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Tommie Lou Eldridge of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Denny and Bill King of Canadian; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Judy Eldridge of Diboll; sisters, Patty Chiapetta of Beaumont and Irene Hill of Couer D Alene, Idaho; step-daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Hal Asher of Surprise, Arizona; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Eldridge was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ima Eldridge; daughter, Kathryn Page; and sisters, Mary Morgan and Frances Maxey.
Honorary pallbearers were the men of the Berean Sunday School Class.
