BARNEY FRANKLIN

Fornmer Lufkin resident

Following a seven-year battle with pancreatic cancer, Barney (Bim) Franklin, age 67, of Atlanta, Georgia, died Friday, July 6, 2007.

He was cremated and his ashes were interred in the Franklin family gravesite in Lufkin, where he was born.

Graveside services for Mr. Franklin were held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 16, 2007, in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with The Reverend Scott Kitayama officiating. A reception followed the committal services at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church.

Bim graduated from Baylor University in Waco and from the Art Center College in Los Angeles, California. He worked as an art director in advertising for several years in Atlanta, Georgia, and also was President of Lufkin Coca Cola Bottling Company. An accomplished artist, he filled several sketchbooks with drawings and watercolors made on travels around the country and abroad.

Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Oscar Dillahunty of Lufkin; nieces and husbands, Lynne and Terry Haney of Lufkin and Ann and Curt Mackey of College Station; great nephews, Taylor and Patrick Haney of Lufkin and Matthew and Mark Mackey of College Station; great niece, Kelly Haney of Lufkin; Hugh Burke of Atlanta, Georgia; and several cousins.
