Funeral services for Charles Edward "Charlie" Gordon, 77, of Lufkin were held Thursday, July 19, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the Highway Missionary Baptist Church in Huntington with Reverend Lamar Denby officiating. Interment followed in the Sims (Rocky Hill) Cemetery. Mr. Gordon was born June 25, 1930 in Mississippi, to Emily (Lockhart) and William Alexander Gordon, and died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 in a local hospital.
A former resident of Batesville, Mississippi, Mr. Gordon had resided in Lufkin since 1980. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1950, and retired from Pilgrims' Pride, where he was a truck driver and intracompany mail carrier. Mr. Gordon attended the Highway Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ola Gordon of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Annelies Burnley of San Antonio; son, Terry Burnley of LaPorte; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Kathryn Burnley of Pearland; grandchildren, Kandice Burnley of San Antonio, Danielle King of San Antonio, Kristin Holzmann and husband Joshua of the Yakota Air Force Base in Japan, Keely Rogers and husband Jonathan of San Antonio, Everett Burnley of San Antonio, Brandon Burnley of Houston and Morgan Burnley of Pearland; nieces, Brenda Dye of Clarksdale, Mississippi and Marie Nelson of Mississippi; and nephew, Charles Gordon Brown of Mississippi.
