Temple-Inland's Forest Products operation in Diboll contributes $2,000 to the Angelina Alliance for Children.

Emmitt and Majorie Bass of Diboll celebrate 50th wedding anniversary with reception hosted by their family and friends.

The Angelina County Planning Committee selects Kenneth Jobe, Safety Supervisor for Memorial Health System of East Texas in Lufkin, as its new chairman.

Texas Historical Commission designates McCarty Cemetery as a Historic Cemetery. The cemetery is located in the Hudson area.

Former Lufkinite Nick Wolda is promoted to vice president of marketing and public affairs at Town Center Improvement District in The Woodlands.

"Telephone Prankster" Willie P. Richardson performs his comedy at the Pitser Garrison Civic Center in Lufkin with proceeds benefiting the Get Hooked on Fishing Not Drugs Program.

Diboll City Council discusses curfew and loitering ordnance at regular meeting of the council at City Hall.

Diboll City Employee of the Week is Secretary Tina Cavazos, a 17-year employee.

Jean Rader is honored at her retirement reception from Angelina College as she closes out 29-year career. Mrs. Rader has served all these years as secretary to the president of Angelina College and the Angelina College Board of Trustees.

Edd Hargett of Crockett is elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Texas ElectricCooperatives (TEC), state wide association representing Texas' 85 electric cooperativies.

The Angelina County Commissioners Court approves participation in the federal COPS grant that will add five new deputies to the county sheriff's Department.

Diboll High School Class of 1995 host 20-year reunion. Texas Governor Bill Clements appoints Lufkin businessman Joe E. Rich of Lufkin to the board of director of the Angelina and Neches River Authority in East Texas.

Marine Master Sergeant James E. Herrington of Huntington reports to duty with 2nd Force Service Support Group, Camp Lejune, North Carolina.

Airman Pamela Hopper of Daisetta graduates from Air Force basic training at Lackland, Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The T.L.L. Temple Foundation awards $52,000 to Lufkin State School to replace 49 wheelchairs. Some wheelchairs are motorized and many special features are required for the clients.

Gene Samford, president and chief executive officer for Contractor's Supplies in Lufkin, is elected to the board of directors of the Texas Aggregates and Concrete Association.

Temple-Eastex's Fiber Products Operation July Employee of the Month is Wally Mendoza. Mendoza is five-year employee and is a quality control tester in the technical department.

Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine picks Diboll Lumberjacks to win District 18-3A followed by San Augustine, Corrigan, Center, Hemphill and Huntington.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

Diboll Police are looking for vandals who stole three golf carts from the Municipal Golf Course maintenance shed and wrecked them by driving them into the No.6 sand trap, one on top of the other. Damages estimated at $600.

Woodland Heights Medical Center receives $106,000 from the T.L.L. Temple Foundation with the proceeds going toward the purchase of advanced diagnostic test equipment.

Approximately 45 players turns out for morning workouts as the Diboll Lumberjacks begin their first practice of the 1977 season under the direction of new head coach Fred Bland. Coach Bland pleased with Lumberjacks' enthusiasm.

The Building Trades Classes at Diboll High School completes new home in the Shannon Forest subdivision and the school board is accepting bids on the home. Marv Larson is the class instructor.

Lufkin Pilot Club President Donna Strickland along with Pilots Veta Rowin and Cludine Lovejoy donate four black buck antelope to the Ellen Trout Zoo.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Pinkerton of Longview announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Ann to Allan DeKoch, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Dekoch of McAllen, Texas.

The Second Annual Lufkin Antique Show is held at the Lufkin Civic Center. The center is showered with the past with collections of antique furniture, glass, silver, brass and pewter.
