Juanita Uzzell, 96, of Lufkin, was born March 11, 1911, in Hollister, Okla., the daughter of the late Ethel (Brannon) and David Alexander Fleming. She passed away Monday, July 30, 2007, at her residence.
Services for Mrs. Uzzell were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ira Bright officiating. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mrs. Uzzell was a homemaker, and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She resided in Lufkin for the past several years. Mrs. Uzzell was an avid bowler and gardener, and at the age of 82 bowled a 511 series. She was a member of Lufkin's First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Norma Jean Braden of Lufkin; son, David Lee Uzzell of Ahwahnee, Calif.; grandchildren, Kathy Braden, Karen Mitchell, Sammy Braden, all of Lufkin, Marguerite Braden of Jasper, Greg Uzzell of Oakhurst, Calif., and Pam Uzzell of Berkeley, Calif.; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a number of other family members.
Mrs. Uzzell was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Travis Uzzell in 1980; her parents, Ethel (Brannon) and David Alexander Fleming; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Pallbearers were Doug Beck, Dennis Uzzell, Jimmy Kinder, John David Fleming, Frank Mitchell, Clyde Herrington, Jim Risinger and Charles Kimble.
