T. L. L. Temple Memorial Library news - BY NELDA PORTER

Over the years, the library has been asked if we have a program to pay off fines by volunteering time at the library. Now, since we are renovating the building and will need a lot of help, we are considering such a program.

Beginning August 1, 2007 anyone with an old fine can sign-up at the circulation desk for the Fine Amnesty Program. In this program, participant's names will be put on a call list for volunteer work that the library needs done. For each hour that is volunteered, the participant will receive a ($2.00) coupon to use toward their fine. You must be age 13 and up to participate in this program. Parents can work for younger children.

While it is back to school for some, parents may be wondering what to do with those younger siblings who are not quite ready for school yet. The Library has just the right program that can help. Tot-Time is a story time for ages 3-5 where the children listen to a story and then do some kind of craft or activity. This program is held every Wednesday from 11:00-11:30 throughout the school year and is absolutely free to the public. Sign your child up today for this fun and educational program.

The Amercan Legion Auxiliary, Unit #113, is supporting our troops from Angelina County with a project called "Because We Care Sponsorship". At the beginning of each month they send out care packages to our soldiers in Iraq. This program would not be possible without the generous donations from the people in our community. If you would like to get involved in this project, many items are needed each month to fill these care packages. Some of the items needed are: new or used paperback books, magazines (no religious materials please), CDs, DVDs, crossword puzzle/sudoku books, batteries, small clip on book lights, small electronic games/video, playing cards/dice/travel board games, blank greeting cards, packing supplies, snack or quart size baggies, flea collars to put around their ankles to keep the fleas off, travel size Kleenex, packs of gum, pudding/fruit cups, and the list goes on. The T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library is getting involved by becoming a drop-off sight for these much needed items. If you and your family would like to help out, just pick up a complete list of items at the Library; make your purchases and then drop them in our drop box inside the Library. Let's remind our troops that they haven't been forgotten.
