ONE YEAR AGO

Tonya Moulder-Wateman joins the beauty staff at Tanne' Salon in Diboll.

Lucy Lazarine Weisner of Lufkin and Jimmy Robinson of Diboll are united in marriage at the Old Orchard Park in Diboll with Rev. Ronnie Coleman officiating.

Shannon and Terry Matthews and Jennifer & Kretz are surrounded by supporters and friends as they cut the ribbon to open Lufkin's newest business, the Play Zone, a safe and fun place for kids and parents to enjoy.

The Diboll Lady Jacks 2006 volleyball team is a force to be reckoned with says Coach Pam Bass with returning starters such as Sade Greene and Amber Baldwin. Coach Bass is working the ladies hard for what is surely to be a tough district competition.

The Diboll Booster Club announces the 2006 Diboll Day theme for this year's event is "Diboll Day 2006: Celebrating a Community with Heart."

Movies showing at the Starplex Cinemas include: Cars; Monster House; Miami Vice; Talladega Nights; & Material Girls.

Harold Cade, H.G. Temple High School Class of 1961 of Diboll is honored at the H.G. Temple School Reunion. Cade was an All-American football player, coach, teacher, counselor and principal during his service to school, youth and community.

FIVE YEARS AGO

The Texans are winners in the Super Bowl competition held at Lumberjack Football Camp at the Diboll High School practice field. Team members include Seth Johnson, Chance Davis, Antonio Boganny, Wesley McClain and Joshua Day.

Hudson Volunteer Fire Department receives $66,095 Assistance to Firefighters Grant. The money is managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency's U.S. Fire Administration.

Diboll Primary School suffer damage as vandals enter building through unlocked window, run a garden hose into the building and turn on the faucet before leaving.

A total of 27 campers participate in the Diboll Lady Jack Basketball Camp held at the Diboll High School Gymnasium. Taking part in the camp are Samantha Lara, Kaylee Capps, Rachel Oates, Heather Windsor, Allyssa Ivey, April Ivey, Callie Clugston, Stephanie Fisher, Cassie Gay, Amber Bearden, Ashley Hines, Chelsea Waters, Lisa Mitchell, Jessica Harris, Lindsey Campbell, Katrina Goins, Holli McCary, Delmica Williams, Kacie Capps, Tempris Bolton, Alejandro Carrillo, Chaney Wyatt, Demaris Carrillo and Jennifer Lowery.

Angelina College opens its fine arts performance season with "Young Cherokee," a play for children.

Kelly Fernandez, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerald Schuette of Round Rock, weds Patrick Carnley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lanny Carnley of Lufkin and Nikki Carnley of Grapeland.

TEN YEARS AGO

Bath & Body Works, creators of natural, healthy, good-for-you skin care and fragrance products opens new store in Lufkin Mall.

Dedication ceremonies for a colorful mural depicting the history of Brookshire Brothers' first store in downtown Lufkin is held at the mural site on Frank Street.

Rev. and Mrs. Elzine Strong celebrate his 43rd anniversary special service at Diboll United Pentecostal Church.

Alabama wins Dixie Majors World Series in Lufkin with 13-3 win over Mississippi. Lufkin lost earlier in the week to Florida 4-2 and was eliminated from the tournament.

Angelina College Fine Arts Division presents "Little Shop of Horrors" in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

Virgie Burchfield of Lufkin celebrate 90th birthday with Mexican dinner. Mrs. Burchfield is retired nurse for Woodland Heights Hospital and member of Parkview Baptist Church in Lufkin.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

Rebecca Reed Smith of Pollok is the top ranking senior in summer commencement at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.

Jerry Cobb is the final bicycle winner in The Free Press summer subscription campaign.

Diboll ISD trustees are considering meeting with local residents and members of the Angelina Taxpayers Association to discuss the possibility of changing the site of the proposed new Diboll High School and related taxation questions.

The board of directors of Memorial Medical Center of East Texas approves the $2.8 million expansion of the hospital's Cancer Center, including the addition of one of the largest linear accelerators between Dallas and Houston.

Bob Bowman of Lufkin becomes a candidate for the Texas Senate position being vacated by Senator Roy Blake of Nacogdoches.

Industries Trailer Division announces the expansion of its Dallas trailer sales and service operation and plans to move across the street from its present location.

Native Dibollian Blant Ferguson is honored at a special retirement ceremony at the Naval Amphibious Base at Little Creek, Virginia. Captain Ferguson is a Navy Chaplain.

THIRTY YEARS AGO

Newly elected officers of the Diboll Band Boosters includes Betty Burkhalter, president; Sam Coleman, vice president; Jeannette Wolf, secretary/treasurer; and Wanda Clark, reporter.

U.S. Army Private Gary Wells of Diboll completes 13-week wire-guided missile system repair course at the U.S. Army Missile and Munitions Center and School, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.

Dibollians are reporting good things about the Mai-Kai Club that is now open under new management, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Kessinger and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hurd.

Newly elected officers of the Diboll Jack Backers Club are Arthur Powell, president; Bobby Amason, vice president; and Juanita Amason, secretary/treasurer.

Lenora Anderson gathered up $73.54 in groceries during her one minute shopping spree at Brookshire Brothers supermarket in Diboll. Brookshire Brothers host this special promotion every Friday afternoon.

Promotions for three Lufkin Industries employees include Fred Jenkins to assistant foreman of the Side Bay Foundry first shift; Bob Watson to first shift foreman in the Structural Shop; and Jerry Paul Thompson to working foreman in the Structural Shop.

Marine Privates William E. Luckey and Robert D. Gavatte, both of Huntington, graduates from recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California.
