Wedding bells were ringing in Canfield, Ohio recently for Forrest Robinson and Julie Sefcik. They were married August 10 in the Canfield Christian Church. Forrest is the son of Charles and Bonnie Robinson, and Julie is the daughter of John and Virginia Sefcik of Canfield, Ohio. After a beautiful wedding ceremony and pictures, the couple exited the church amidst a sea of wedding bubbles. The wedding party was whisked away in a limo to the famous Fellows Rose Garden in Youngstown, Ohio for more pictures. Finally, the wedding party arrived at the Squaw Creek Country Club where more photos were made on the golf course. Then the wedding party entered the club for hors d' oeuvres and a dinner reception, complete with traditional Italian and Czech ethnic dancing and the famous cookie tables. These were all traditions of the bride's family.
Special friends of the Robinson's attending from Lufkin were Dexter and Mary Satterwhite. Charles and Bonnie hosted a rehearsal dinner at Avion on the Water in Canfield. Guests enjoyed fine Italian wines and Texas "Shiner Bock" beer along with their hors d' oeuvres as they viewed a collection of memory boards on display about the bride and groom. Then guests entered the dining room for a candlelight dinner. The program that followed included champagne toasts, special poetry written for the couple and recited by Dexter Satterwhite, a game for the bride and groom conducted by Mary Satterwhite, a touching video of Julie and Forrest, and concluded with a candle presentation to each guest as Karen Nathman, aunt of the groom from Oklahoma City, OK sang "Shine on Us". As guests left the dinner, they were presented gift boxes of pecans from Rattlesnake Ranch in Crockett and a Texas-shaped cookie, with a red dot denoting Lufkin. Canfield guests commented to the Robinsons that Texans really know how to throw a party. The big weekend also included a golf brunch for the men of the wedding family held at Bob Evans' Restaurant and hosted by Mary Satterwhite, Karen Nathman, and Jennifer Robinson. On the day after the wedding, the bride's family hosted a brunch for out-of-town guests and family in their home and everyone got to visit with the new bride and groom before they left for the airport on their honeymoon.

Steven Hogue, son of Sally and Steve Hogue, worked through the Baptist Student Ministries at SFA for three months as an assistant at Grand Canyon Baptist Church and at the General Store and Deli at Grand Canyon. Sally and 15-year-old son Stuart went to bring Steven home at the end of the summer from his work, which Sally says, the experience was priceless for Steven. First Baptist Church gave him some support to help him. Steven is a senior at SFA. Sally Hogue teaches ESL for newcomers at Lufkin Middle School. She tried to explain it to me, but since I am not familiar with that I can not pass along what she does except that she works with students in math, history and science who do not have English as their first language.

The Texas A&M game against Fresno State kept us on the edge of our seats. I know that 70,000 fans in Kyle Field and the millions watching on TV know that Jovorskie Lane, who scored four touchdowns, is from Lufkin. The other Lufkinites, Alton Dixon on defense and E. J. Shankle on offense, made Lufkin proud. Martha Carswell was waiting on TCU vs. Texas game to start and said that she taught Jermichael Finley in Diboll in the sixth grade.
Dorothy Bate has a crowd of cars at her house for lunch on Sundays. She must be a good cook. Wonder if she would notice if Ernest and I sneaked in to eat?

Melinda works at Lufkin Industries and Ben is with Moore Building Associates.
Andrew and Ben Moore were at the dedication of the remodeled Youth Building at the First Christian Church. Moore Building Associates along with architect Jerry Hill have completed the facility that is "state of the art". Mike Hunter mentioned that Andrew and Ben were in the youth group when the building was built 20 years ago and here they are remodeling Building II. We say what goes around comes around.
Mary Byrd and I were in the crowd to hear pianist Rob Landes perform Gershwin, Berlin and Porter music at the Temple Theater. Donations went to the Eunice Vickery Music Scholarship. Dr. Karen McBee introduced the program. Jimmy Tinkle said that Landes performed for free and had the money go into the scholarship. The music was "heavenly" and most of us "gray haired people " knew the music and wanted to either sing or dance. Mabelyne McKnight said that she was a neighbor of the Landes family in Houston and heard him play the piano at 3 years of age. Maybe he will return and you will be able to hear him play.
