Diboll City Council votes unanimously to hire Lanny Parish full-time as the seventh city manager in Diboll's history.
Angelina County commissioners back off formal closure of Ryan's Lake Road west of Diboll after roomful of residents from the area voiced their opposition to the prospect of losing one of their only links to the Neches River bottomland.
C.B. and Doris DuBose of the Beulah community celebrate 50th wedding anniversary with reception hosted by their children, son Tom of Shreveport. Louisiana and daughter Elaine of Elander, Texas.

Central administration staff at Diboll ISD for the 1987-88 school year includes Jim Dunlap, superintendent' Dr. Billy Bowman, assistant superintendent; Dr. Fran Lavergne, curriculum coordinator; Ervin Dubose, director of special programs; Dixie McDuffie, director of food services; Ruby Smith, secretary; Joyce Carr, bookkeeper' Sarah Rios, receptionist; and Lucy Rector, tax collector.
The Huntington United Methodist Church celebrates 85 years of service to the community. Mrs. Julia Thompson Burris summarizes the history and tells several anecdotes of the early years as she remembers them or remembers others telling them.

Diboll Police say they have no leads into a rash of burglaries on Nelson and Booker Streets the past two weeks. Four burglaries are reported this past week.
Delores C. (Dee Dee) Groom is named Assistant Comptroller Temple-Eastex furniture subsidiary, Woodward, Incorporated in Austin..
Four players from Diboll will be members of the University of Houston football team that will open the 1977 season against UCLA in the Atrodome. The players include offensive guard Donald ray Coleman, running back Emmett King, tight end Tommy Alexander and punter Jay Wyatt.
Jim Todd rammed home a 12-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole in total darkness Monday night to bring him and Sparky Cartwright their second straight championship in the seventh annual Labor Day Invitational Golf Tournament held in Diboll.
