Elmo Rains, 93, of the Aiken Community, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2007 at a Center nursing home. He was born February 21, 1914 in Shelby County, to Luther P. Rains and Sarah Elizabeth Davis Rains. Mr. Rains was a member of the Newbern Masonic Lodge #97, and was a member and Deacon at White Rock Missionary Baptist Church for many years.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 9, 2007 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center with Rev. Jason Hebert and Rev. Gordon Vaughn officiating. Interment followed at White Rock Cemetery.
Survivors include daughters, Sally G. Bunce and husband Lewis of Artesia, New Mexico, Lavada Scates and husband Jimmy of the Aiken Community; sons, Gilbert Rains and wife Linda of the Aiken Community, Rex Rains and wife Janie of the Waterman Community; thirteen Grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, a number of great-great grandchildren; s-in-Law, Jewell Brown of the Aiken Community, and Novice Rains of Diboll.
Mr. Rains was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Annie.
